so many

In the last couple of months since I was diagnosed I’ve been talking to more and more people who have/had breast cancer or who know someone with it.  I wonder if I’m more attuned to them or am I just noticing it more.  What’s disturbing is how prevalent it really is.  It bothers me that it’s almost like saying “I’ve been to the dentist” or “I had dinner out last night”.  It’s too common.  Because it’s so common I don’t take it seriously.  I still see it as an inconvenience in my life.  Something that’s taken over every aspect of it, that I can’t control it, that I have to put up with it and everything that goes with it  for the time being.  And I still refer to it as “it”.  Maybe some day it will be just an inconvenience for women, something that can be cured with a pill or an injection and they won’t have to endure these surgeries and treatments to try and feel whole again.  To be cured instead of “in remission”.
